The Volunteer Connection $10K IRS Grant
The Volunteer Connection has been awarded a $10,000 Grant from the IRS to provide tax return preparation service for tax payers who have low to moderate income, including those with limited English proficiency and those with disabilities. The Volunteer Connection has facilitated Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services in Salina for more than 10 years.
Kansas Wesleyan University plays an important role in providing this tax preparation service to the community, recruiting students to serve as volunteer preparers and hosting the 3-day training, which is offered in early January. Additional opportunities for volunteers include serving as greeters and screeners, who assure that the taxpayer has all of the necessary information in order to have their return prepared.
